The Carolina Hurricanes got their first lead of the series, and then, well, then this happened.

Just about 11 minutes into the first period, the 19-year-old, 195-pound Svechnikov exchanged words with Ovechkin. Svechnikov nodded, seeming to consent to a fight, and then it happened.
Ovechkin, 33-years old and 235-pounds heavy, landed three consecutive rights into Svechnikov’s face. It was over quickly. Canes teammates immediately signaled for a trainer.
The Canes’ telecast captured an even more brutal angle of the fight.

Svechnikov was visibly unwell. He was escorted to locker room.
The fight was only Ovechkin’s fourth of his career.
Chip Alexander reported that Svechnikov would not return to the game during the first intermission.
