A week ago, the Washington Capitals placed Travis Boyd on waivers and loaned him to the Hershey Bears after Evgeny Kuznetsov returned from suspension.
Sunday, Boyd played his first game of the season with the Bears and he was dominant.
Boyd tallied three points — two goals and an assist — including the overtime game-winner in Hershey’s 4-3 victory over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Boyd’s first goal tied the game 3-3 in the third period to force overtime. He drove hard to the net to bury a setup from Mike Sgarbossa and Matt Moulson past Phantoms goaltender JF Berube.
Good morning. We won last night over those annoying @LVPhantoms. And it was awesome #HBH

With time winding down in overtime, Boyd set himself up in a very familiar office and blasted a one-timer past Berube with one second left on the clock.

The OT goal gave Hershey their first win of the season and improved their record to 1-1-1.
Boyd also registered a secondary assist on a first-period Mike Sgarbossa goal.
Boyd recently spoke to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir about being cut and lamented that the Caps’ moves over the summer was writing on the wall.
“I think they had a vision at the end of last year about what the fourth line should look like this season,” Boyd said. “And that vision was a fast, forechecking, get-in-your face type of a line. And quite frankly I don’t know if that’s 100 percent my game. I think there are people up there that do it a little bit better, and that’s the reason I’m down here.”
The best way to handle that frustration is channel it into playing even hockey. And it looks like Boyd is doing that to earn another opportunity with the Capitals some day.

The Bears are back home at Giant Center on Sunday to take on their rival Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
