Last week, the PWHPA announced they will kick off The Dream Gap Tour, a series of tournament-style showcases across Canada and the United States.
The showcases are gaining momentum, as Unifor, the largest private-sector trade union in Canada was announced as the title sponsor for the Toronto leg of the showcase. Budweiser was also named the official beer of the PWHPA, the association announced in a press release.

“Unifor’s partnership with PWHPA is about creating equity for Canada’s elite women hockey players so that women and girls across the country can play the game, earn a living wage, and receive the dignity and respect they are owed,” said Unifor President Jerry Dias in a press release.
“Between securing ice facilities and presenting this showcase, we cannot thank them enough for all they’ve done,” Natalie Spooner, a member of the Canadian Women’s National Team, added.
Additionally, this isn’t Budweiser’s first foray into the support of women’s sports. After the US Women’s National Soccer Team won the World Cup, the beer company produced a full-page ad in the New York Times vowing to not stop watching the league where all of the squad plays, the National Women’s Soccer League.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ontario Women’s Hockey Association are also providing support for the Toronto Dream Gap Tour series.
This also comes at a time when the NWHL is making strides of its own to bring in revenue. Recently, they announced an exclusive three-year streaming deal with Twitch for all of their broadcasts, the first of its kind for professional women’s hockey.
