Former Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green took his son Axel to the ice rink on Monday morning. His wife, photographer Courtney Parrie, documented the duo’s adorable adventure on her Instagram.
Axel’s day included a skate lesson from dad and an impromptu ride on the zambo.
“Axel has been sooo excited to come see daddy practice,” Parrie wrote in a video caption, as Axel bounced excitedly in his seat at the Detroit Red Wings practice facility.
After the Red Wings cleared the ice, and Mike helped Axel into his skates, the two put in some practice time.
Axel even helped the Zamboni driver clean up afterward — although he did insist on driving!
The beloved former defenseman still has strong ties to the Capitals. He bought a house in DC after his trade to Detroit, and “was beyond happy” when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
Though a virus kept Green out of the beginning and end of the 2018-19 season, he is expected to be ready for Red Wings Training Camp, according to General Manager Steve Yzerman via the Detroit Free Press.
With the couple expecting their second child, hopefully Mike and Axel will both continue to be in good health and able to teach the future kiddo a few tips too.
