Just like he did during the Stanley Cup Final last year, Washington Capitals anthem singer Caleb Green served up another memorable singing performance on live TV.
Green sang on the America’s Got Talent live show Tuesday night as a member of Voices of Service. The singing group is made up entirely of veterans and active-duty service members. The quartet delivered an inspiring performance of “Fire” by Gavin Degraw.
The performance started with an introduction of the group at Arlington National Cemetery saluting the gravesites of fallen soldiers.
Backed up by a military chorus representing all 5 military branches, Voices of Service performed Degraw’s hit song with powerful harmonies. After the song ended, the group received a standing ovation both from the crowd and the four judges on the AGT panel.
“I can’t sit down,” Howie Mandell said. “I just want to salute you for your service. I want to salute you for your talent. And I want to salute you to keep going.”
“I could sum it up with one word: inspirational,” Simon Cowell added. “I always felt that way about you. And here’s the really exciting thing about you. I think the public are going to vote you through to the next round. I believe going forward into the later rounds that you’re capable of coming up with a song that could literally stop the traffic with your voices, so congratulations.”
The group made it through to the live show after stirring performances of Katy Perry’s Rise and Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s See You Again.
“Is this your calling,” Terry Crews asked Caleb Green after the group’s performance Tuesday.
“It is most definitely our calling,” Caleb said. “We have the great privilege of being able to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves. We want to keep going. We want to keep inspiring. We want to keep lifting everyone up.”
Earlier in the week, Green received encouragement on social media from Capitals forward Tom Wilson and his sometimes partner during anthems, Bob McDonald.
Capitals fans and people with exquisite and fine tastes can vote for Voices of Service now through Wednesday morning at 7 AM so they can advance to the next round. Here are the ways you can vote.
