Washington Capitals anthem singer retired Master Sgt. Caleb Green is advancing to the next round of America’s Got Talent.
Green, as a member of the four-person music group Voices of Service, performed Katy Perry’s “Rise” on NBC’s flagship show. Their appearance was aired on episode four of Season 14 of America’s Got Talent shortly after the hour mark of the show.
By the time it was over, the group received a standing ovation from all four judges and the crowd.
“I have 8 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan,” Green said of his time with the Army. “One that comes to mind is we were on a ground convoy from one base to another and we averted an improvised explosive device. But the tank behind us hit it. It just tears you up inside because it could have been your son, your daughter, your friend. And we still had to be resilient and do our job.”
“We want to spread a message of love and hope for everyone in America who is coping with any challenge in life to show what music can do,” retired Staff Sgt. Ron Henry said. The group is dedicated to performing as music therapy for veterans and service personnel struggling with post-traumatic stress. Sgt. Maj. Christal Rheams and Sergeant First Class Jason Hanna make up the final two members.
The AGT judges were floored by the performance.
“Wow, wow, wow – that’s how you do it,” Simon Cowell responded immediately after the performance.
“First of all, I can’t thank you enough for your service,” Howie Mandell said. “Because of what you do allows us to do what we do. And the fact that music can be helpful and it is a tool – it’s beautiful and important and right and thank you so much for doing it.”
“What you guys are doing – this song, your voices, your ability – I can’t thank you enough for all of it. Thank you,” Gabrielle Union said. Union gave the group a standing ovation as they sang.

“The arts, music, dance, it’s a universal language where we all feel connected,” Julianne Hough said. “What you’re doing is phenomenal. I absolutely loved it.”
“You know, I have to tell you. Your story is amazing. Your message is amazing,” Cowell said. “What I loved is the vocal arrangements are stunning. It was a version I’ve never heard. You’ve all got great voices. You’ve all got great talent. This is what we all need right now – thank you.”
And then the judges voted. They were unanimous.
“Yes,” Mandell said.
“Absolutely,” Union said.
“You got three yeses,” Hough replied.
“You haven’t got three yeses. You’ve got FOUR Thousand yeses,” Cowell said acknowledging the crowd.
Off stage, Terry Crews, the host gushed about the vocal group. “4,001,” he said to the camera. “Yes.”
As the group walked off stage, the reaction continued at the judges table.
“They were fantastic,” Hough said.
“I don’t think they know how good they are,” replied Cowell.
