An Alex Ovechkin cereal called Ovi O’s is coming to Giant Food grocery stores.
A Capitals fan in the public Facebook group “True Capitals Fan Zone” shared the image of the cereal box Monday morning. “Coming to a Giant Food store near you soon!!!” was the caption.
The leaked image of the cereal box was then shared across Twitter. The Facebook user later deleted the posting shortly after publishing.
The cereal box shows the Capitals’ Weagle logo, an image of Alex Ovechkin, and Ovi’s facsimile autograph. The Giant logo is on the top left and it says it is a Collector’s Edition. The cereal is “naturally flavored honey nut,” which is perfect because Ovi’s personality is kind of nutty, right?
RMNB confirmed the product will land in Giant Food stores closer to hockey season and more news and details will come at a later date.
In 2016, Giant Food signed a multiyear legacy partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) making the Landover, Md.-based Ahold Delhaize banner the exclusive grocery partner of the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, Washington Wizards, and Capital One Arena. The Capitals have run countless promotions with Giant, including autograph signings with Tom Wilson and their canned food drive.
Giant Food operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs about 20,000 people.
