Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov celebrated his 28th birthday on Tuesday with a fellow famous Russian hockey couple.
The Orlovs had dinner with Vladimir Tarasenko and his wife Yana Tarasenko, bringing the two last Stanley Cup champions together. Orlov is a month removed from his wife giving birth to their first child.
Varvara and Yana documented Orly blowing out his birthday candle (and a whole lot of giggling) on their respective Instagram Stories.
Varvara and the Tarasenkos sing Happy Birthday (poorly) to Orly in Russian.
“Thank you, dear friends,” a sheepish Orlov said with sarcasm before blowing out the candle.
He then gets in an argument with Vladimir Tarasenko about who is going to actually eat the cake.
Orlov and Tarasenko have been longtime friends since their teenage years playing and training for the Russian national team. The two teammates won gold at the World Junior Championship in 2011, defeating Canada 5-3 in the gold medal game after a furious comeback in the third period.
Since then, the families have spent time with each other when they can, like Christmas in 2015.
Orlov, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Dmitrij Jaskin also had a sushi dinner with Tarasenko this past December when the Blues were in Annapolis.
