Former Capitals defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk became a dad over the last week as his wife Deanna gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
The couple has named their son Connor Michael Shattenkirk. “We are so in love,” Deanna wrote on Instagram.
It’s the couple’s first child together.
The Shattenkirks were congratulated on Instagram by several former and current Capitals wives.
“Aww congratulations guys!! He’s perfect. So happy for you 💙,” Lauren Oshie wrote.
“He’s beautiful! Congrats! 💙” Gina Carlson added.
“😭😭😭Congratulations to you both!” said Taylor Winnik.
According to Deanna, Connor was born early on July 2nd. Connor now shares a birthday with former Rangers great and Capitals GM, George McPhee, as well as future Hall of Famer Joe Thornton.
Shattenkirk was acquired at the 2017 trade deadline for Zach Sanford.
Shattenkirk played 19 regular-season games with Washington and was nearly a point-per-game player, tallying 14 points. But Barry Trotz revealed a year later that the trade didn’t work out as planned as Shatty wasn’t a top pairing defender “as advertised.” Trotz added that Shattenkirk struggled against the Penguins in the playoffs that year.
Shattenkirk went on to sign a four-year, $26.6 million contract with his hometown New York Rangers over the offseason, which included a $5 million signing bonus. In two seasons in New York, Shattenkirk has 51 points in 119 games.
Congratulations to Kevin and Deanna on their new bundle of joy.
