ESPN points out Joey Chestnut has now won more titles than 11-time Stanley Cup champion Henri Richard 🌭

Speed-eater Joey Chestnut devoured 71 hot dogs (20,590 calories) in 10 minutes on Thursday to become the champion of the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for the twelfth time.

“He has God’s username and password and he does with it what he chooses,” the over-the-top announcer said. “The rock in which he stands is not a rock, it is the United States of America.”

The hot-dog-eating contest is a Fourth of July tradition held at the Coney Island boardwalk every year. Chestnut is the number-one ranked eater in the world. This year’s contest marked the 103rd in history.

What a performance though I would not want to be standing in the splash zone.

Darren Rovell did some counting stats and this is what Chestnut put in his body.

To put in perspective, this is how many hot dogs Chestnut ate in emoji form.

During the telecast, ESPN tried to play up Chestnut as one of the greatest, uh, athletes (?) of all-time, putting him in the same conversation as Bill Russell and Henri Richard — 11-time champions in the NBA and the NHL respectively.

This is very funny to me.

Henri Richard holds the record for winning the most Stanley Cups in NHL history, winning 11 times with the Montreal Canadiens. During Richard’s 20 years with the Montreal Canadiens from 1955-75, “The Pocket Rocket” never played more than four consecutive seasons without winning it all.

Richard won championships during these NHL seasons.

1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973

Congratulations, Joey. You are a true champion of your craft.
