Playoff report: May 2, 2019

Philipp Grubauer posts a playoff shutout and Patrice Bergeron scores twice to bring both the Avalanche and Bruins into series ties after four games.

Boston Bruins 4, Columbus Blue Jackets 1

Series tied 2-2

  • Patrice Bergeron recorded his 93rd career point in the playoffs and passed Bobby Orr for sixth place on the Bruins’ all-time list.
  • Artemi Panarin scored Columbus’ only goal in this game after the puck clearly hit the protective netting behind the goal. Officials gonna official and for some reason that play is not reviewable unless the puck directly goes in the goal after hitting the netting. NHL gonna NHL.
  • The Bruins are now 4-1 after a loss in this year’s playoffs.

Colorado Avalanche 3, San Jose Sharks 0

Series tied 2-2

  • Philipp Grubauer recorded his first career playoff shutout and is the first German-born goaltender in NHL history to do so and only the second of German nationality, joining Olie Kolzig (6).
  • Grubauer is the fifth different Avalanche/Nordiques goaltender to record a shutout in the playoffs and the first since Craig Anderson in 2010.
  • Nathan MacKinnon is the first Avalanche player to score 6-plus goals in a postseason since Joe Sakic in 2004.
