The first games of the second round in this year’s playoffs are complete and both home teams have jumped out to early series leads.
Boston Bruins 3, Columbus Blue Jackets 2
Boston leads series 1-0
- Noel Acciari scored the 11th shorthanded goal of this year’s playoffs (47 games), four more than the total from the entire 2018 postseason (84 games).
- The BlueJackets scored twice in 13 seconds, erasing a 1-0 deficit and establishing a franchise record for fastest two goals in a playoff game.
- Charlie Coyle tied the game within the last five minutes of regulation and then redirected a pass from Marcus Johnasson past Sergei Bobrovsky to win the game in overtime.
- Lastly, writing this post is like I am typing with the keyboard equivalent of Dolores Umbridge’s black blood quill.
St Louis Blues 3, Dallas Stars 2
St Louis leads series 1-0
- Jordan Binnington improved to 5-2 in the playoffs and established a new Blues record for most wins in a postseason by a rookie goaltender.
- Two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko gave the Blues just enough to top the Stars in Game One.
- I missed yesterday’s crew bandwagon post, so I’ll just state here that I’m pulling for the Blues or Sharks. We got to feel what it was like to see our franchise’s first ever Stanley Cup last year, so I’d like those fans to be able to see that as well. Yes, the Blue Jackets have also never won a Cup, but they first played in 2000-01 and I hate them.
