One series ends in Game Six and another will need the full seven games to find a victor. I think you know which series is which.
Carolina Hurricanes 5, Washington Capitals 2
Series tied 3-3
- Carolina has won four straight Game Sevens. Twice in 2009 and twice in 2006. The Capitals won their last Game Seven last playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- The opening round of the 2019 playoffs will feature three Game Sevens for the 14th time in NHL history and the first time since 2014.
- Justin Wiliams has the second-highest points-per-game percentage in games where his team is facing elimination among active NHL players.
Dallas Stars 2, Nashville Predators 1
Dallas wins series 4-2
- John Klingberg became the first defenseman in Stars/North Stars franchise history to score an overtime goal in a series clinching game.
- Teenage defenseman Miro Heiskanen led the Stars in ice time during their Game Six overtime victory (32:25).
- This will be the second time in four years that the Stars have advanced to the second round. In 2016 they faced off against the St Louis Blues and they will do that once again in 2019.
