The Washington Capitals were demolished 5-0 by the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Three, but it was Alex Ovechkin who made the most headlines.
During the first period, Ovechkin got in a fight with 19-year-old Andrei Svechnikov and knocked the rookie out in three punches. The UFC publicly responded to the knockout by tweeting out a Conor McGregor quote.
The former double champion himself congratulated Ovechkin on his fight Tuesday.
Congrats @ovi8!
A Proper Russian.
Great to meet you in Moscow big man, see you again soon!

After offering praise to the three-time MVP, McGregor called Ovechkin a “Proper Russian”, a play off his Irish Whiskey. McGregor then said it was “[g]reat to meet you in Moscow big man.”
McGregor and Ovechkin first met on July 15, 2018 at the World Cup Final held in Russia. The two superstar athletes smiled and put their dukes up for a photo in a Luzhniki Stadium luxury box.
During that same day, McGregor also met with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Ovechkin is a big fan of MMA and frequently posts video on his Instagram Story while watching UFC pay-per-views at home. Ovechkin also met current lightweight h UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after a March Capitals game in San Jose. Nurmagomedov beat McGregor in his last fight.
