Tiny goaltender tries to fight Gritty during mites on ice game

The Flyers’ mascot, Gritty, got in what appears to be his first NHL fight Wednesday. At intermission of Philadelphia-Toronto, Gritty tossed a goalie’s catching glove into the crowd during the mites on ice game.

The miniature-sized Flyers fan did not appreciate very much. So he chased Gritty around the ice looking for some frontier justice.

First, watch as Gritty tosses the $50 piece of equipment into the front row. That was not very nice.

And then it was on.

The child wields his stick above his head looking as if he were trying to chop down a cherry tree. Eventually, he catches up and wallops Gritty in the side.

Gritty then delivers The Ultimate Disrespect when he flexes his gigantic orange belly at the child. He makes a hand gesture telling the Baby Flyer to bring it on. The child throws his blocker glove off. It’s time to throw hands.

The kid tries to knock Gritty’s googly eyes off his face, but instead gets into a wrestling match.

In the end, Gritty’s massive size difference would prove too much to overcome. Gritty picks up the child and walks off the ice with him, earning the W.

Though I guess he probably should have gotten two minutes in the penalty box… for kidnapping.
