Since leaving the Hershey Bears in mid-November, Capitals prospect Axel Jonsson Fjällby has struggled to find the net.
After scoring his first AHL goals in October, things dried up for the luscious-haired Swede, going 33 games in a row without denting the twine in the SHL, before today’s game versus Mora IK.
AJF did it in a style we’ve seen before.
Axel stripped the defender of the puck on the blue line and took off. All alone with the netminder, he roofed the puck in beautiful fashion.
AJF also assisted to Emil Bemström’s 2-0-goal halfway through the first.
After a broken play in front of the Mora net, Axel retrieved the puck behind the net and set up Bemström for a one-timer in the high slot that beat the goalie clean.
With only two games remaining in the regular season, Jonsson-Fjällby may be heating up in time for the playoffs, just like he did last spring. Jonsson Fjällby has recorded just 9 points in 34 games this season, despite playing with highly-rated prospects Jonathan and Marcus Davidsson.
In May 2018, the Washington Capitals signed Axel Jonsson Fjällby to a three-year, entry level contract.
