Misc. You Missed: The Leafs should leave the hugging to hometown hero Tom Wilson

Oh, boy. The Capitals beat the Leafs 3-2 in Stanley Cup Champion Tom Wilson’s hometown! That was one heck of a two periods. (The first period was boring; we shan’t speak of it again.)

For the actual RMNB game recap, which always manages to balance a serious-yet-entertaining vibe, head over to Ms. Bailey’s summation of the night’s events. For insights on the math behind the madness, Mr. Cerullo has his consistently superb numbers for the morning after about Holtby and his meh teammates.

For the hugs, spankings, and shenanigans, here’s everything else!

Pregame

A fan made Evgeny Kuznetsov a sign. It was super cute and Kuzy saw it and it got even cuter. You should go read more about it and then come back.

The TJ Oshie and Tom Wilson spanking ritual continues.

During the “Game”

Steve Dangle has already uploaded his Leafs Fan Reaction Video and you should absolutely watch this amazing edit where Steve Dangle is a secret Caps fan.

I haven’t mentioned this in previous editions of Misc., but Nicklas Backstrom entrancing camera operators happens literally every game.

The most important non-hug part of the game was Braden Holtby. Not only did he stop 40 shots, he also made–and lost–a new friend, Herman the Puck.

He did not handle the loss very well. (Thankfully it was his only loss of the night. Heh. Cause they won. Get it?)

Thankfully, it ended well.

Shenanigans

Wilson’s little brother Andre Burakovsky got into a scrum and we’re all Very Proud.

HUGS!

The Leafs “lukewarm sidebump” Hug

Andreas Johnsson scored in the third but it was too boring to talk about. Then John Tavares scored with less than half a minute left in the game, and it was so boring we have to talk about it.

Twitter had some excellent analysis.

The “Come to Mama” Hug

Alex Ovechkin scored the first of the game! On the powerplay! This is yet another important milestone! 650 goals! What are the rest of us even doing with our lives!

No one is as ready for his hugs as Alex Ovechkin. He even does a cool knee-pump thing before getting collared by TJ Oshie.

The “PURE YAY” Hug

Brett Connolly scored in the second period. Look at the joy on his beautiful bearded face.

He got hugs from Wilson and Lars Eller, who assisted on the goal, and Christian Djoos, who was late because he had the farthest to travel and is not in any way reflective of a lack of hug energy on his part.

Tom’s “Sorry Bout Ya, Toronto” Hug

Toronto native Tom Wilson scored! In Toronto!

He scored short-handed, his second shorty of the season, which is hard for him because his hands are in fact quite large.

The montage of happy Caps and bummed out Leafs is *chef’s kiss* beautiful.

Ms. Bailey already included this bit about hometown hero Tom Wilson in her excellent recap but it’s so good it’s worth reading again.

In conclusion:
