Bruins beat Caps 1-0, huh, didn’t think that was even possible

The Washington Capitals have lost their first game to the Boston Bruins since October of 2014. David Krecji scored. No one else did. Read all about it.

Caps lose 1-0.

  • So this was a blowout. The Bruins nearly doubled up the Caps in shot attempts, especially up close, where the Caps were excluded with ease. The Caps’ offense reminded me most of their game against the Islanders from a couple weeks ago: nearly nonexistent. The Bruins are a great defensive team — maybe the best in the East —  but this was a pitiful effort by the home team.
  • Dmitrij Jaskin got busted for a mild hook in the first period, Once he left the box, Evgeny Kuznetsov committed a slash. Todd Reirden flipped his lid there, benching both forwards for the last few minutes of the first period. (The part about GMBM authorizing Todd’s discipline is especially interesting)
  • There were no Caps penalties in the second period.  Ho hum.
  • TJ Oshie is in the wrong sport.

  • Alex Ovechkin returned to action after a long break and a one-game suspension. Here’s a highlight:

  • Tuukka Rask had an easy job today, but he earned the win anyway, and now he’s the winningest goalie in Bs history. Meanwhile Braden Holtby was handed a loser and did all he reasonably could to redeem it.
  • The RMNBers and I were discussing this during the game: Mike Milbury was a fine analyst. Maybe, because he was away from the intermission desk, he felt free to do away with the grandstanding. He identified Burakovsky’s bad turnover, Kuznetsov’s discipline issues, and the team’s failure to get any action deep. Overall, a solid NBC broadcast. Weird.
  • Off-topic: MSE, the Leonsis family, and the NHL have started a fundraiser to help Fort Dupon, which has been screwed over by the DC government. Please consider making a donation.

So a 14-game win streak against Boston comes to an abrupt end. Not a good performance by the Caps, but this homestand is just getting started.

Enjoy your fried foods tonight. Eat some rich-in-fiber roughage too please. Trust me.
