The Washington Capitals have halted their season long losing streak at seven games as they returned from their long time off to beat the Calgary Flames 4-3 at Capital One Arena. Go away Voldemort and don’t you ever come back.
The Caps out-shot the Flames 40 to 30, but were out-attempted at five-on-five 62 to 46.

- The streak is dead at seven games. Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s top shelf snipe with less than a minute remaining in regulation gave the Caps their first win since January 10 in Boston. Lets never do that losing stuff like that again.
- The Caps blocked a season high 27 shots in this game, so they definitely earned the two points through some probably black and blue body parts.
- Tom Wilson‘s 14th goal of the season gave the Caps a 3-1 lead in the second period and also tied his career high for goals in a season. He set that career high last season and has matched it this season in 46 less games. Similarly, Jakub Vrana‘s assist on the goal tied his assist total from last season (14) in 22 fewer games.
T.J. Oshie recorded an assist on Kuznetsov's goal. Oshie now has points in four straight games (1g, 7a).

- This was the first game the Caps have played without Alex Ovechkin since April 10, 2016 which was a season finale 2-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Before being required to miss this game by the NHL for missing the all star game, Ovi had played in a career high 214 games in a row.
- The Caps power play was 0-for-3 before Kuznetsov dented the twine with the game winning goal on a man advantage. The Caps really need to get that unit clicking if they want to start racking up some wins.
- The good guys’ next opponent is the Boston Bruins who they have beat fourteen times in a row. Make if fifteen, please.
