Live from Capital One Arena, it’s Saaaaturday Night! The Capitals hosted the Buffalo Sabres this evening and the only thing you need to know is that Alex Ovechkin keeps scoring because he is a cyborg.
A bit of a messy start with a penalty from Michal Kempny and a goal from Jack Eichel. With a couple goals from pals like Brett Connolly and Jakub Vrana, the Capitals snagged the lead heading into the second period.
In a strange déjà vu sort of feeling, the second period started exactly like the first period. An early Michal Kempny penalty, setting up for a Jack Eichel goal (but this time it was a power play goal). I don’t like this version of “Groundhog Day”. After a goal from Sabres took the lead for a bit until they ran into the one force that cannot be stopped. An Alex Ovechkin slap shot. The game would go into the third period at 3-3.
There was a third period. No goals, despite the Capitals leading in shots during regulation 35-21.
Overtime comes, overtime goes. We go to a shootout.

Caps beat Sabres 4-3 (SO)
- After a little oopsie from goalie Carter Hutton, Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelly took advantage of the blunder and got the Capitals on board. It was Connolly’s 7th goal of the season and his sixth point in his last six games.
- Devante Smith-Pelly picked up a milestone with his assist on the Connolly goal, tallying his 100th NHL career point.
- Jakub Vrana got his tenth goal of the season!
Jakub Vrana scores his 10th goal of the season. He’s now four goals shy of surpassing his career high of 13 set last season.

- After the set up for the Jakub Vrana goal, Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s point streak is now at eight straight games. That’s one game shy of tying the franchise record set by both Bengt Gustafsson (1985-86) and Dave Christian (1986-87).
- Rasmus Dahlin continues to be one of the weirder names for me to hear. Not sure why.
- Alex Ovechkin is now on a six-game goalscoring streak. He has seven goals in his last three games. What a FREAK!!!
