Late in the second period, Dmitry Orlov stepped up and picked off an errant Buffalo Sabres pass in the offensive zone. Nicklas Backstrom would eventually reel in the puck and find Ovechkin down the wing.
Ovi beat Carter Hutton from 30-feet way to tally his 29th goal of the season.

This is what I call an unstoppable slap shot.
Here’s another look.
Ovechkin slammed face-first into the corner boards to celebrate before getting mobbed by his teammates.
At the bench, Ovi would get a head rub from TJ Oshie and for good reason.
Ovechkin now has goals in seven of his last eight periods of play, if you don’t count overtime last night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Ovi’s goal was his league-leading 29th of the season. He has goals in six straight games.
Alex Ovechkin's six game goal streak is one shy of matching his career high streak set as a rookie in 2005-06 (Feb. 10 – March 8, 2006: 8 goals in 7 games).

Ovi also has goals in ten of his last 11.
