At Wednesday’s “Rock the Red Carpet” event, fans welcomed back the Washington Capitals in style. The well-dressed Capitals walked the red carpet and signed autographs, took selfies with fans, and looked generally dapper.
But here’s a cool detail, that if you didn’t look closely, you missed. John Carlson’s pocket square was customized to resemble the Capitals engraving on the Stanley Cup.
Carlson wore a tan suit with a blue tie, and tucked in the front left pocket of his jacket was a silver pocket square. Inside a red border, the pocket square features the names of the 2017-18 Stanley Cup champions. Names featuring front office personnel and players was designed to look like the team’s engraving on the Stanley Cup.

There are some slight differences between the pocket square version of the Stanley Cup engraving and the real deal. For example, on the pocket square, Travis Boyd, Shane Gersich, Jakub Jerabek, and Nathan Walker appear on the list of players, whereas on the actual Stanley Cup they do not.
Carlson’s look was made by bespoke clothing company Tom Barnett New York. The custom tailored suit also featured another hidden customization: the names of his two sons embroidered on the collar of his suit jacket.
Tom Barnett New York has made custom suits for Carlson before, notably this really rad suit that he wore to the Stadium Series game in Annapolis.
