The NHL unveiled the Tampa Bay Lightning’s engraving on the Stanley Cup and it features one local hero (and business owner) we all love.
After being unable to win a championship during his 14 NHL seasons as a player — seven of which were with the Washington Capitals — Jeff Halpern finally got his name on the Stanley Cup after being an assistant coach for the Lightning.
The Potomac, Md. native’s name is placed beside head coach Jon Cooper.
At Wednesday’s “Rock the Red Carpet” event, fans welcomed back the Washington Capitals in style. The well-dressed Capitals walked the red carpet and signed autographs, took selfies with fans, and looked generally dapper.
But here’s a cool detail, that if you didn’t look closely, you missed. John Carlson’s pocket square was customized to resemble the Capitals engraving on the Stanley Cup.

The Washington Capitals held a private party on Monday night to give out championship rings to players, staff, and ownership.
The Stanley Cup was in attendance for the special event and it had a brand new look.
The top of five bands, which featured championship teams from 1953 to 1965, was removed. On the bottom of the Cup a new band was added and it featured a new team. The 2017-18 Washington Capitals.
