Robert Bortuzzo will have a hearing with the NHL after elbowing Michal Kempny

During Tuesday’s preseason game against the St. Louis Blues, Michal Kempny took a hit to the head from Robert Bortuzzo and suffered an upper-body injury.

Wednesday morning, the league had a second look at Bortuzzo’s hit and determined he’ll have a hearing Thursday over the incident with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The hit in the video appears late and also includes an elbow to the face.

Kempny was hit 45 seconds into the third period. Bortuzzo’s left forearm strikes Kempny in the side of the head.

A timetable for a ruling on Bortuzzo hasn’t been released. Kempny’s status remains unknown. He did not finish the game Tuesday, but no update has been given from Todd Reirden

This is the second hearing of the preseason. Montreal Canadiens Max Domi had a hearing on September 19 after punching Aaron Ekblad. He was suspended for the remainder of the preseason.
