On Sunday, former Capital Alex Chiasson celebrated his day with the Stanley Cup. In an sentimental gesture, he returned to his high school, Séminaire Saint-François in Quebec City, with the Cup in tow.
“I grew up here and spent my childhood at the Seminary participating in football camps, playing hockey in the ranks,” Chiasson said on Sunday to TVA Sports’ Richard Boutin. “It’s also here that I met some of my best friends. It’s a very special day and it’s touching that there are so many people [here].”
Chiasson shared the day with Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault, who also attended Séminaire Saint-François.
Chiasson and Marchessault were childhood friends and put their friendship on hold during the Stanley Cup Final.
“It’s really special that he’s here,” Chiasson said. “We grew up together and he is part of my family, as I belong to his. It’s not the NHL player here, but Alex Chiasson’s friend. In any other scenario, I would have liked him to win the Cup.”
Marchessault seconded Chiasson’s thoughts about the day.
“I wanted to be with Alex to live this important moment,” Marchessault said to Boutin. “It’s amazing that a trophy of this magnitude is here. I also wanted to show my son the hardest trophy to win and the work to succeed.”

Chiasson’s day started with a lunch at Quai 1635, followed by a trip to a hospital in Quebec City.
Later in the day, Chiasson took the Cup to the river overlooking Quebec City.
