Dmitry Orlov’s Stanley Cup day was shorter than originally planned. The championship trophy’s arrival was delayed six hours after a travel snafu. But that doesn’t mean Orlov didn’t have a great experience.
On Instagram, Orlov called his time with the Stanley Cup “one of the best and most memorable days of my life!β The Russian defenseman shared the trophy with his hometown community of Novokuznetsk, signing autographs and taking photos in front of the city’s ferris wheel.
He also threw a private party where he revealed an extravagant Stanley Cup cake that rivaled Alex Ovechkin’s.
Russian baker Artem Voiloshnikov (@art_tort) designed and built Orlov’s cake.
Orlov’s Stanley Cup cake was several feet tall and featured a realistic Stanley Cup. Inside of the bowl of the Stanley Cup was a majestic eagle with its wings splayed high into the air. Beyond being the Capitals’ mascot and the United States’ national bird, the word eagle is what Orlov’s name translates to in Russian.
Varvara Orlova, Dima’s wife, showed off the entire cake in her Instagram Story and wow.
There are three sections of the cake. The Stanley Cup is the top. The second layer is highlighted by a Bauer hockey stick, which melted around the perimeter. The design decision is somewhat reminiscent of the clocks in Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory. The bottom part of the cake is decorated with black and white balls, potentially inspired by the general party design.

Orlov’s cake was nearly as impressive as Alex Ovechkinβs Stanley Cup cake, which was at least two feet tall and featured a rotating Ovi figurine and pyrotechnics. Braden Holtby’s cake was also a work of art.
Previous cake creations by Orlov’s baker includes Russian nesting dolls, a sailboat, and a Chanel inspired creation.
