Introducing RMNB news desk contributor Julia Karron

Editor’s Note: RMNB is bringing new energy to the site for the 2018-19 season. Meet our newest contributor!

Hi! I’m Julia. I will be helping cover news during the day for RMNB. I’m a Bethesda native, and have been a Caps fan since my eighth birthday. My dad took me to a game against the Atlanta Thrashers and after watching Peter Bondra play, I pointed to the ice and said “I want to do THAT!” My dad also recalls me saying it was “the best night of my life.”

That best night of my life turned into a lifelong hockey journey. I played for the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association and the Reston Raiders growing up and I continued to play throughout college for my school’s club team.

I started my journey in sports journalism a few years ago when I interned with Slate’s sports podcast Hang Up and Listen. From there, I’ve interned at ESPN with Around the Horn, got my masters in multi-platform journalism from Merrill College at the University of Maryland, and was sent to Israel this summer to cover the Friendship Games basketball tournament for the University of Maryland.

I’ve done everything from video production, to vlogging, to podcasting, to good old-fashioned reporting and writing.

During the evening, I work in the Washington Post’s sports department as a part-time aide. I help build the baseball and scoreboard pages in the print edition.

I’ll also be reporting on high school field hockey, golf, and tennis once classes are in session.

You can find me on Twitter (@jkitsjulia) where I post all of my work.

I’m excited to produce a whole host of work for RMNB, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

P.S. – RMNB really should have hired my brother Lucas, who called #Capsyear precisely a year ago. Here’s a photo of us on the steps after they won the darn thing.

RMNB is not associated with the Washington Capitals; Monumental Sports, the NHLPA, the NHL, or its properties. Not even a little bit.
