Capital’s defenseman Dmitry Orlov is typically quiet on and off the ice. During his Stanley Cup day, he entered a private party with flamethrowers.
But Orlov’s day with the Cup almost went down in flames due to a travel snafu. The trophy was accidentally sent to Novosibirsk, instead of Orlov’s hometown of Novokuznetsk, and the Cup had to be helicoptered in. Orlov’s event was delayed by six hours, and he will not get extended time with the trophy.
But first, let’s enjoy this lit entrance.

The Cup eventually arrived via air six hours late.
But that didn’t discourage the fans, and they showed out to the Public Events Square across the street from the Katok ice rink.
It’s the first time the Cup has been to Novokuznetsk, and the city’s 400th birthday coincided with the Cup’s visit.
To celebrate Novakuznetsk's 400th birthday. There is no better way than to fly the #stanleycup in by helicopter. @Capitals @orlov_09 returns home with hockey's silver chalice. @NHL @HockeyHallFame pic.twitter.com/AQcCtwSHYJ

Orlov took countless photos with fans who braved the long wait.
Just a few people showed up in Novokuznetsk for @orlov_09’s day with the Cup!

Just like we categorized Evgeny Kuznetsov’s fan photos because there were so many, Orly’s fans will get the same treatment.
Classic handshakes? Check.
Thumbs up handshake combo? Double check.
Thumbs up and pointing? Triple Check.
Even Orly contributed to the thumbs up craze.
We also got a thumbs up featuring an unamused child.
But we have a new category. A lot of people used the moment to grab hold of the Cup and never let go.
