Madison Bowey throws out first pitch, visits children’s hospital, and eats borscht during his day with the Stanley Cup

Saturday, Capitals rookie defenseman Madison Bowey had his day with the Stanley Cup. While Bowey played no games for the Capitals in the playoffs, he dressed in 51 games during the regular season, guaranteeing that his name will be etched on the championship trophy in September. (Players who appear in at least 41 regular season games receive that honor.)

Bowey celebrated his Cup day in his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was very busy.

First, Bowey brought Lord Stanley’s Cup to Children’s Hospital. He was met at the entrance by country music singer, Brett Kissel.

Inside, Bowey met with patients and staff at the hospital.

Bowey next brought the Stanley Cup to the Varsity View Community Club in the afternoon. Hundreds of fans lined up to take a photo with the championship trophy.

“My hockey career began here, at this great community club in this wonderful hockey city, and this is my chance to pay tribute to everyone who helped me get started, and encouraged me to keep going,” Bowey said according to Global News. “Playing minor hockey here, especially right behind us here in this rink, I think that’s where you truly love the game, and I think I had to come back and show that support, and show that love and how appreciative I am to this community.”

Bowey signed autographs and took photos with fans.

Bowey threw out the first pitch before a 18U AAA Provincial game.

Before leaving, Bowey brought the Cup into his old rink to take photos.

Bowey concluded his day at home and held a private party.

The Caps defenseman ate some of his grandmother’s borscht out of the Cup.

He also took time to take a wonderful then and now picture.

Congrats, Madison. We hope you never forget this day.
