On Wednesday morning, Michal Kempný announced that he will have his day with the Stanley Cup on July 10, via his official Facebook page.
There were no specific details finalized at the time of his announcement, but in the a conversation with TV Nova on Tuesday, he mentioned two locations in the Czech Republic that he would be taking it.
“I’m definitely planning to [bring it to] Hodonín, where I was born, and to Brno,” Kempný said, as translated by RMNB’s Alexandra Petáková. “I spent seven years of my career in Brno and I owe a lot to Brno, so I think the fans deserve to see the Cup in Brno as well.”
Kempný was born in Hodonín, a small town located in the south west Czech Republic, near the border of Austria and Slovakia.
He played youth hockey with SHK Hodonin, before making his professional debut in the Slovak Extraliga with HK 36 Skalica.
Kempný eventually moved on to play more competitively for seven season with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga, the highest-level ice hockey league in the Czech Republic.
As both Kempný and Vrána will hold their Cup days in the Czech Republic, the question was posed as to whether they would also spend that time with each other as well.
“I can say that we’ll try to come up with the best for the fans so they can enjoy it as much as we do,” Kempný said.
