Here’s the blockbuster trade you’ve been waiting for: The Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames have completed a multi-player deal that will bring star defenseman Dougie Hamilton to the Metropolitan Division.
Five players total are involved.
According to multiple sources, including Pierre LeBrun, it’s a strictly player-for-player move.
To the Carolina Hurricanes:
To the Calgary Flames:
This kind of big, player-for-player/no-picks-involved trade was more common in the old days, but Calgary and Carolina, both unhappy with their 2017-18 seasons, had the motivation to make a big move this summer.
Dougie Hamilton has put up 40-plus-point seasons since he left Boston for Calgary a few years back. He logs more than 20 minutes a night and is known for driving play. Going forward, he will be an important part of the Canes.
This might be the first move of many for Carolina. They are loaded with right-side defenseman, including captain Justin Faulk, and are looking for a new goalie as Cam Ward‘s contract expires.
