Alex Ovechkin has become a very superstitious hockey player during this year’s playoff run. From moving bar stools to a certain place, eating heavy Italian food, or screaming at TJ Oshie, Ovechkin has a very specific set of routines he must complete so that his world is aligned and his luck earned. But the Vegas Golden Knights have tried to get in his head.
Ahead of Game Three of the Stanley Cup Final, Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault trolled Ovi with a hot lap at Capital One Arena. During Game Two, Marc-Andre Fleury squirted Gatorade over Ovechkin’s spot on the ice, mocking his superstition.
Ovechkin got MAF back, however, Thursday night in Vegas.
Ahead of Game Five, Ovechkin skated over the red line to MAF and slashed the goaltender in the right pad. MAF did not appreciate this so he chased Ovechkin across the ice to no avail.
Later during warmups, Fleury slashed Ovechkin in the right leg.
Ovechkin laughed. What characters these guys are.
