On Thursday morning, ahead of Game One of the Capitals Round Two matchup against the Penguins, Alan May held a ticket giveaway at DC101. 100 lucky people had the opportunity to get tickets to Game One, which meant an early start for many Capitals fans attempting to guarantee their seat in Capital One Arena.
As the tickets were being distributed, Rami (@darthrami on Twitter) relayed a story that… well. Trust us, you just need to read this thread through to the very end.
The line ahead/the line behind at DC101. No idea if Iām in 100 or not – I think so, but FX. Pretty sure the woman next to me is going to kill her boyfriend. Sorry, dude. pic.twitter.com/MQkmRZl8vK

So, let me tell you a story about the very nice woman behind me in line this morning, and how her boyfriend will regret today for the rest of his life. (Or at least the rest of their relationship.)
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
The ~4 people behind me and I all showed up around the same time, but I noticed this woman on her phone a lot, looking anxious. She sees me noticing, and mentions that she was supposed to meet her boyfriend there, but that he wasn't answering his phone.

He lives in Annapolis, so it's a pretty far drive, and he COULD be driving, but he also has a tendency to oversleep, so probably he's just asleep, but he was supposed to have been there already, so, you know. Not answering the phone is a bit worrying.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
It later comes out that his co-workers were also supposed to be there, but she didn't know who any of them were, so she couldn't go see if they were in line, and ask if they'd talked to him.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
She spends a lot of time vascilating between annoyed and worried. He's actually the bigger fan, she tells me. Not that she doesn't love the caps! She does, and is excited for the game, but he's the one who is OBSESSIVE.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
They also have tickets to see Avengers at midnight. She honestly wasn't sure how he (or she) was planning on getting up at the ass crack of dawn for the give-away and then making it through both the game and the movie, but that was the plan. (Movie tix already purchased.)
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
She decides that at 5:30, when his roommate would be awake, she'll text the roommate to make sure he's at the apartment and safe, and just overslept. 5:30 hits, and she does so. Still no word from the boyfriend.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
"Well, he's just going to regret this because I'm not leaving. I'm going to go to the game. Without him." Rock on, lady. "And then he can come pick me up at the stadium if he wants to go to the movie." YES. GOOD.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
Boyfriend does, eventually, get back to her. And like, hey, I oversleep all the time. So, while I'm with this lady on her annoyance, I also feel for the dude, because lemme tell you how I had NO IDEA whether I'd be able to wake up in time for this morning.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
But. BUT. Our dudette's boyfriend reports that apparently his co-workers went by around 4. And saw the line, and decided not to wait. And texted boyfriend and told him not to bother coming. Now, boyfriend was not awake at 4, but at some point DID wake up and see this text.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
…and then go back to sleep WITHOUT TELLING HIS GIRLFRIEND HE WASN'T GOING TO COME.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
(And that is the point at which I lose any sympathy with boyfriend dude.)
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
Meanwhile, because we got there "late" (aka ~4:30 or so), we were in the mid 70's for our numbers. When they gave out tickets – all were good! They're all good tickets! but – many of the first ones given out were in the lower bowl. Up close and personal.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
By the time we got up there, there weren't a lot left in the lower bowl. But Alan May is asking who's together, who's on their own, etc, and woman behind me tells him she's on her own, but that her bf was SUPPOSED to be there, with a very quick summary of what had happened.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
And Alan May smiles at her, and says, "well, then YOU are getting a seat in the lower bowl." and looks through his pile of tickets left to find one of the few left for the 100s. And gave it to her. Again with that smile.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
So, dude fails to tell his girlfriend he's not showing up to a thing at ASS O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING. Girlfriend gets A+++ tickets directly from Alan May, boyfriend gets no tickets, and likely a shit ton of girlfriend's wrath.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
Plus having to pick her up at the arena in the middle of the traffic of people being let out.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
Oh, and did I mention that they're moving at the end of the month (to the PNW), so this is their last chance to see the caps for a VERY VERY LONG TIME? Because they are, and it is.
Sorry, dude. Your loss. In a big way.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
I hope that woman has the TIME of her FREAKING LIFE at the game tonight. I hope the @Capitals win one JUST FOR HER. And I want to thank @MayHockeyNBCS for, as always, being so awesome.
— N ❄️ (@darthrami) April 26, 2018
Alan May is a pretty awesome guy.
When we reached out to Rami, she added that the as-yet-unnamed woman of the story said that “she did revel in her plan to take many, many pictures from the game, and spam him with them the whole time.”
We can’t say that we blame her for that. Let’s just hope that the Capitals turn in a win on Thursday to make this story all the sweeter.
