When Evgeny Kuznetsov first joined the Capitals from Russia, Michael Latta and Tom Wilson gave him a nickname: Harry Potter. The nickname was given to Kuznetsov due to his “magical” stick skills.
Last Thursday, Wilson was involved in a scary incident which saw a puck deflect off Nicklas Backstrom’s stick, catching him in the face. The injury left him with a broken nose and a lightning bolt shaped scar – just like a certain boy wizard that Wilson happens to be a fan of.
Looks like it’s time to retire the nickname, Kuzy. There’s a new wizard in town.

“I like Harry Potter, but I don’t like it that much,” Wilson joked to Tarik El-Bashir, following practice on Wednesday. “I’ve got a lightning bolt on my forehead now. It’s kind of weird that that happened, but hopefully we can heal it up. For now, I guess I’m a wizard. We’ll get some oil, or whatever, and get rid of the scar.”
For all of Wilson’s joking, he was lucky that the injury wasn’t worse.
“The guy that was working on me was pretty good,” Wilson said. “I was fortunate. Popped the nose, gave me some stitches.”
According to El-Bashir, the surgeon that saw Wilson was one of the best in Los Angeles.
In all seriousness, though, Wilson said he got lucky. It could have been much worse than a jagged cut near his eye and a broken nose. He was also fortunate to have one of Los Angeles' best cosmetic surgeons working on him. #Caps

This wouldn’t be the first time that Wilson has showcased his love for the Boy-Who-Lived. Aside from bestowing nicknames on his teammates, Wilson has also used a “wand” to illuminate his nighttime reading.
His on-ice performance has also been pretty magical this season as well.
