While the Dallas Stars won 4-3 in a shoot out against the Nashville Predators, their sound crew had the most fun of anyone Saturday night.
Playing off Nashville’s “Smashville” nickname, the Stars played only songs by Smash Mouth throughout the entire game.
I can report that both teams didn’t forfeit and fans didn’t leave the game early, which suggests to me that people must really love their hockey in Texas.
The Dallas Stars ONLY play "All-Star" by Smashmouth during breaks. Literally that's the only song.

Before we begin, here’s the perfect soundtrack while you read this article.
During the second period, the Stars ran a poll on what song should be played next. Instead of showing three different options, every choice was Smash Mouth’s All Star. The fourth choice was “All of the Above.”

The Stars also played off the fact that All Star gained a lot of its popularity from being part of the Shrek soundtrack. During a break in the third period, a graphic featuring Shrek characters were photoshopped next to Smash Mouth band members on the Jumbotron. “Happy Smashmas” was written alongside the photos.

Earlier this evening, Vice Sports Dave Lozo tweeted out an idea.
Free idea: NHL teams should have one artist's music play during all stoppages and then market each home game as "XXXXXX Night"

The Stars replied with a photo of Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell.

The best part came after the game when Jamie Benn subtly dropped a Smash Mouth reference during his postgame interview.

“It was a smash mouth of a victory and I thought our fans were the all stars in overtime there,” Benn deadpanned.
After being alerted of the game playlist on Twitter, Smash Mouth had a simple and bad grammar’d reply.
we're big is Dallas.
