The Capitals’ John Walton shared some huge news Tuesday afternoon. Walton has been asked to go to Pyeonchang, South Korea in February to do play-by-play at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Walton will be covering women’s hockey.
The hardworking announcer made the announcement on his personal Twitter account.

Walton’s message reads:
Proud to announce I’ll be calling Olympic play-by-play for women’s hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics on NBC in Pyeonchang, South Korea. I’m incredibly thankful to NBC, and also to Ted Leonsis, Dick Patrick, and Monumental Sports and Entertainment for allowing me to pursue this incredible opportunity in February.
Monumental’s Dave Johnson, Binghamton Senators announcer Grady Whittenberg, and the Hershey Bears’ Zack Fisch will fill in for Walton while he’s gone.
So yeah, I’m gone for a bit in February. But you’ll be in the capable hands of both @davejsports and my buddy @BSensRadio while I’m gone…

I’m also happy to say that @TheHersheyBears radio voice @zackfisch will make his NHL regular season debut February 20 against Tampa Bay.

We’d like to congratulate John on this huge honor. Since initially landing in Hershey, John has created his own huge opportunities through hard work, trying new things, learning everyday, and kindness. Do us proud in February, dude!
