Monday morning the Capitals announced that for the second straight year, one lucky fan will get the chance to meet coach Barry Trotz, set the starting lineup and announce it in the locker room prior to the Capitals preseason home game on September 27. The winner and three of their friends will also get to watch the game from the front row.
That chance will go to the winner of a charity auction, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic/Ronald McDonald Care Mobil (KMMC/RMCM) through So Kids Can. The auction runs until September 22. As of publication, the high bid was already over $2,000.
So Kids Can is a charity founded by radio host Elliot Segal and former Capitals defenseman Mike Green that helps benefit youth-focused non-profits in the DC Area. This season, in addition to the charity auction, Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, Braden Holtby, and Elliot will all be donating $50 each for each Capitals regular season win and $100 each for each playoff win to So Kids Can. Last season’s campaign raised more than $30,000 for Martha’s Table.
