Barry Trotz to step down as general manager of the Nashville Predators

Barry Trotz’s time as general manager of the Nashville Predators is set to last just three seasons.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the former Stanley Cup champion head coach will be stepping down once the club can find his eventual successor. The Predators are set to make the news official at a press conference later on Monday.

Trotz initially became the team’s general manager on July 1, 2023, taking over for David Poile, who had held the position since the team’s inaugural 1998-99 season. Trotz was also the first head coach in Nashville’s franchise history and held that spot behind the bench until 2014, ultimately moving to the Washington Capitals, where he won the Cup in 2018.

Under Trotz’s guidance, the Predators started the 2025-26 season as one of the worst teams in the league. The poor play led many to question the long-term contract commitments Trotz made to veteran players such as Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei during the 2024 offseason.

The Predators missed the playoffs last year and currently sit four points out of a playoff spot this year.
