Former Capitals defenseman Brendan Witt received a meaningful honor over the summer. Witt’s hometown of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, immortalized the former first-round pick with a sign at Glenn Hall Park.
The metal sign features the highlights of Witt’s career and is surrounded by Humboldt’s four other NHL players: Hall of Famer Glenn Hall, Ralph Klassen, Brad Lauer, and Jerome Engele.

Witt posted a photo of the sign Wednesday morning and called it an “honor.”

He was congratulated by former teammate and Vezina Trophy winner, Olie Kolzig.

In a 2014 interview with the Missoulian, Witt admitted that he didn’t know growing up that guys had made it to the NHL from his hometown of Humboldt.
“Well, no, but we all knew Glenn Hall,” Witt said. “He holds the record for most games played by a goalie. And in Saskatchewan that’s all we live and breathe, is hockey. And every kid’s dream there is to play in the NHL, and my dream came true, to play as long as I did. I was very fortunate, and I had the support of family, but I had to leave home at 15 to pursue it at higher levels. There was a lot of sacrifice involved as well.”
Witt played 626 games with the Capitals and was a member of the Capitals 1997-98 Stanley Cup Final team.
