This just in. Seven NHL players were bought out Friday as teams prepare for the first day of free agency tomorrow.
The full list was first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Full list is: Murphy & Bouma (CAL,) Hayes (BOS), Jokinen (FLA), Stuart (WIN), Cammalleri & Smith-Pelly (NJ).

The buyout list includes Ryan Murphy ($787,500*) and Lance Bouma ($2.2 M*) from Calgary, Jimmy Hayes ($2.3 M*) from Boston, Jussi Jokinen ($4 M*) from Florida, Mark Stuart ($2.625 M*) from Winnipeg, and Michael Cammalleri ($5 M*) and Devante Smith-Pelly ($1.3 M*) from New Jersey.
The list does not include Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik. Capitals’ senior reporter Mike Vogel wrote Friday that Orpik’s “presence and experience is important as the Caps try to integrate at least one and perhaps two rookie blueliners into their lineup” next season.
The biggest name players bought out include the Devils’ alternate captain Mike Cammalleri, who scored 31 points in 61 games last year, and Panthers forward Jussi Jokinen, who is a year removed from a 60-point season.
Buying out the 34-year-old Jokinen saves the Panthers $2.7 million on their cap this year and next. Buying out the 35-year-old Cammalleri will save the Devils $3.34 million over the next two years, but will lose the team $1.67 million from their cap during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
