Brent Burns signs autographs for kids at Disney after being mistaken for a pirate

Sharks defenseman Brent Burns took a trip to Disney World with his family immediately after the 2016-17 season ended. Little did the Hockey Chewbacca know, kids would be asking for his autograph, but not because he’s one of the best hockey players in the world.

“We did a great family trip to Disney World,” Burns said to the media as captured by the Sharks Twitter account. “We usually go to Disney Land, so it was a lot of fun to go there. Got to meet a long lost cousin. Chewie was great!”

Burns, who is a child at heart, dressed up in a costume along with his kids. The 2017 Norris Trophy-winning defenseman wore a pirate’s hat and a bandana around his head while his son painted on a beard and put eye black around his eyes.

“I actually signed a couple autographs in kids books,” Burns said. “They thought I was a pirate! I signed them. It was fun. We always try to dress up and have a good time everyday there, so can’t blame the kids for thinking that.”

I could definitely see how the mistaken identity could have occurred. Burns’ haggard beard and missing teeth are very convincing.

“[I’ve been] squeezing every lost drop out of [the summer], that’s for sure,” Burns said. “It’s been crazy but it’s fun. Give the family time to catch up, be a dad, and get back into that. Get ready for next year.”
