Alex Ovechkin accomplished a bit of history on Kevin Shattenkirk’s first goal as a Capital.
Ovechkin’s secondary assist on the power-play tally gave him 1,033 career points. That point leap-frogs Ovechkin past Alexander Mogilny for second place on the all-time points list among Russian born players.
Shattenkirk and Ovechkin performed a switch on the power-play which led to the goal.
Ovechkin now trails childhood hero Sergei Fedorov by 146 points for first place.
Ovechkin already owns the record for the most goals by a Russian born player (484), passing Fedorov on November 19, 2015.
