The Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs just engaged in an instant classic.
After taking an initial 1-0 lead, the Capitals would comeback three separate times (2-1, 4-2, and 5-4) before winning in overtime. The Caps’ 6-5 OT victory would end the Leafs’ winning-streak at five games.

Justin Williams started the scoring 1:14 into the first period after redirecting a Dmitry Orlov slap shot into the net. Alex Ovechkin drew a penalty on the first shift of the game, which led to Williams converting on the subsequent power play.

With the Capitals down 2-1, TJ Oshie hit the back of the twine to author the Caps’ first comeback of the evening. After Justin Williams decied to curl on a semi-breakaway attempt, the Canadian hit Oshie driving the center lane. Oshie out-waited Frederik Andersen and roofed the puck home. 2-2.

After falling behind 4-2, the Caps stormed out in the third period and were instantly rejuvenated by Evgeny Kuznetsov’s fourth goal of the season. Kuznetsov went down to one knee and fist pumped before punching the glass in the corner.

Dmitry Orlov would complete the Caps’ second comeback of the night after rifling a one-timer past Andersen. The play was made possible by a beautiful slap pass by Matt Niskanen which froze the Leafs goaltender.

John Carlson would complete the Caps’ third comeback and tie the game at five. After Evgeny Kuznetsov could not score on a breakaway, Carlson raced to the crease and chipped the puck home. Verizon Center went bananas.

Finally, Alex Ovechkin ended the game in OVItime with a beautiful one-timer. Caps win 6-5.
