Roberto Luongo tells Lamar Jackson ‘I can totally relate’ after rumors spread quarterback left game to poop

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Cleveland Browns 47-42 in a wild game that featured two different clutch fourth-quarter drives by reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. But it was what happened with Jackson directly before that had everyone talking.

Jackson mysteriously left the game and returned to the locker room before hobbling back onto the field for the game-winning drives.

Roberto Luongo, the third-winningest goaltender in NHL history, joked on Twitter that the Ravens quarterback had to go to the bathroom, recalling his own queasy experience during a 2007 playoff game.

Roberto Luongo’s number 1 retired by the Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers retired Roberto Luongo’s number one on Saturday night. It’s the first number retired in Panthers’ franchise history.

In a 12-minute speech where Luongo showed off his English, French, and Italian, the 40-year-old former goaltender thanked his supporters and lamented never bringing a Stanley Cup to Sunrise, FL. Luongo also teared up when talking to his wife Gina, who he met after he arrived to the team. The

Luongo received massive cheers from the 17,873 fans at BB&T Center as his number was raised to the rafters.

Roberto Luongo to become first Florida Panthers player to have jersey retired

The Florida Panthers announced on Monday that goaltender Roberto Luongo would become the first player in the history of the franchise to have their jersey retired. The ceremony will happen on Saturday, March 7, 2020, when the Panthers host the Montreal Canadiens.

Luongo announced his retirement from the NHL on June 26, 2019, capping off a 19 season career at age 40. His 489 career wins placed him third of all time, with only Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy ahead of him. At the time of his retirement, Luongo was also one of three goaltenders in NHL history to play 1,000 games.

In addition to his on-ice achievements, Luongo was also a respected voice in the Flordia community. In the wake of the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, Luongo saluted the activist students in an emotional pregame speech at the Panthers’ first home game following the incident.

Roberto Luongo retires after 19 seasons in the NHL

A day after both Brooks Orpik and Matt Hendricks retired from the NHL, Roberto Luongo followed suit. Luongo announced his retirement after 19 seasons in the NHL, splitting his time between the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, and New York Islanders.

The 40-year-old ends his NHL tenure with 489 career wins, third of all time behind Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy.

Luongo announced his retirement on Twitter with a joke about Florida retirement homes. His tweet was accompanied by a photo of a pair of goalie pads stung over an electrical wire next to a pair of sneakers.

NHL Situation Room overturns Filip Forsberg’s last-second goal for goaltender interference

When general managers recommended that the NHL Situation Room resolve goaltender interference calls, the consensus was that shifting the burden to Toronto would make these rulings less controversial and more consistent.

Tuesday night at BB&T Center, Filip Forsberg’s overturned last-second goal, on the five-year anniversary of his trade from Washington, proved that no one is still quite sure 100 percent what constitutes goaltender interference or not.

Roberto Luongo salutes activist students from Stoneman Douglas High School during pregame speech: ‘You are what’s giving us hope for the future’

Last Wednesday, Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo was thousands of miles away in Vancouver when a gunman barged into Stoneman Douglas High School and killed 17 people with an AR-15 style rifle. The veteran goaltender’s two children, Gabriella and Gianni, attend elementary school in the Parkland area where the family resides. With the two children’s school under lockdown, Luongo felt scared. He was helpless to do anything.

Thursday night after an emotional pregame ceremony by the Panthers honoring the victims, Luongo addressed the BB&T Center crowd.

Thursday marked the Panthers first home game since the incident.

Wes McCauley’s microphone issues, marathon shootout between Devils and Bruins highlight Thanksgiving eve games

Wednesday night was a very busy day in the NHL. 30 of 31 teams were in action with the Thanksgiving holiday approaching.

The Vegas Golden Knights spent Sunday trolling everyone on Twitter

At 10:30 on Sunday morning, all 30 current NHL teams submitted their expansion draft protect lists to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Knights have three days to make their selections before they are announced during the NHL awards on Wednesday evening.

However, instead of flying under the radar, the Golden Knights social media team has spent their entire Sunday trolling the NHL on social media.

Roberto Luongo congratulates Henrik Sedin after former teammate scores 1,000th point

Friday night at Rogers Arena, Henrik Sedin became the latest player to reach 1,000 points and he did it in dramatic fashion.

After taking a pass from his twin brother Daniel, Henrik beat former longtime teammate Roberto Luongo with a deke between the legs. The goal tied the Canucks and Panthers at 1-1 in the second period.

Alex Ovechkin Runs Over Roberto Luongo, Shows Good Sportsmanship Afterwards (GIF)

A few years ago, Milan Lucic laid out Ryan Miller, causing the Vezina trophy-winning goaltender to miss a lot of time due to a concussion. The fallout from that play also caused a change in the NHL rulebook.

On Sunday, Alex Ovechkin laid out Roberto Luongo. Unlike with Lucic-Miller, there was zero malice here.
