Ilya Samsonov has been unbeatable in net in his last two starts, posting shutouts against both the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. Those 56-straight saves were good enough to see him recognized as the NHL’s second star for the week ending on November 21.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has had a simply sensational week, and the NHL is acknowledging it as well. Ovechkin has been named the NHL’s First Star for the week ending January 19. Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews were the second and third stars, respectively.
Ovi scored eight goals in three games, including back to back hat tricks against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders. The goals propelled him up the NHL’s all-time leaderboard, passing Mario Lemieux (690) and putting him tied for ninth with Steve Yzerman (692).

Capitals defenseman John Carlson keeps finding himself at the top of the NHL’s charts. The blueliner was named the NHL’s first star of the week for the week ending December 8.
Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry and Buffalo defenseman Jack Eichel were named the first and third stars.
Carlson has previously been the second star of the week for the week ending October 20, as well as the first star of the month for October.
