Before the Stanley Cup Final kicks off, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon graced us all with another round of his popular NHL Superlatives segment.
This time, Fallon covered players from only the two final teams which gave us more superlatives for Capitals players including Alex Ovechkin, Braden Holtby, Jay Beagle, Jakub Vrana, Brett Connolly, and Philipp Grubauer.
The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon did another round of his NHL Superlatives, Friday, and a few players popular with Caps fans were featured.
Fallon joked about Alex Ovechkin’s caveman appearance. He also gave a fake award to former Capitals defenseman Nate Schmidt again.
Capitals defenseman Nate Schmidt has done many amazing things in his life. He made the Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team in college and was named an All-WCHA First-Team All-Star in 2012-13.
Schmidt fulfilled a lifelong dream in making the NHL, playing his first career game on October 12, 2013. Schmidt has scored a NHL goal and played in the postseason. With his high-profile gig, Schmidt even got a free Tempurpedic pillow just for being him.
But on May 11, the highlight of Nate Schmidt’s life happened. Jimmy Fallon made fun of him on The Tonight Show.
Nate Schmidt was a healthy scratch in the Capitals’ season-ending loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Well here’s something that might bring back his smile. Wednesday night, Schmidt was honored on The Tonight Show during Jimmy Fallon‘s NHL Superlatives bit. Schmidt was voted “most likely to puke rainbows when he opens his mouth.”

One of Jimmy Fallon’s go-to bits is Superlatives, where he takes an awkward bio photo of an athlete and then gives them a funny superlative like you’d find in a high school yearbook. Last night, he did some for the NHL again (NBC channels are airing all NHL playoff games) and Fallon mentioned three Caps players: Alex Ovechkin, Curtis Glencross, and John Erskine.
