Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith contributed a real Dang-It moment on Tuesday night as he and the Oilers took on the Calgary Flames in Game Four of their second round series. The veteran netminder let in a slap shot drive from Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson that came from about 150 feet away.
It’s a true sight to behold.

The Battle of Alberta is no stranger to some rough stuff and that was on display in Sunday night’s Game Three. The Edmonton Oilers took down the Calgary Flames 4-1 to give them a 2-1 series lead but that end result was a bit overshadowed by a play that occurred with more than half of the third period left to play.
The Flames Milan Lucic bowled over Oilers goaltender Mike Smith behind the Edmonton net with the score 4-0 in favor of the Oilers. The most obvious of all melees ensued and when the dust settled Lucic was handed a five-minute major for charging and thrown out of the game.

The Battle of Alberta descended into chaos again during Hockey Night In Canada.
Late in the second period with Edmonton holding a commanding 6-3 lead, Oilers forward Sam Gagner went for a diving poke check while Flames goaltender Cam Talbot covered the puck. Calgary, down big, did not like this very much. So Talbot started punching everything that moved and HERE WE GO!
Sibling rivalry is real.
As Mike Smith warmed up for the 2018 All-Star Skills Competition, his four boys Aksel, Ajax, Nixon, and Kingsley skated around the Amalie Arena ice. The family skate was going fine until Nixon, potentially angry that his brother put his finger in his cereal during breakfast, dropped the gloves with Aksel.

A handful of NHL teams made last-minute trades before the NHL roster freeze went into effect Saturday.
The goal of most of these deals was to maximize assets, open room for players on certain teams’ expansion draft protection lists, and leave the Vegas Golden Knights with as little talent as possible.
Every team I've talked to the last few weeks is working on some variation of: "How do we give Vegas almost nothing?" Tampa pulls that off.

The Arizona Coyotes (41 points) hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins (74 points) tonight. To be victorious, the ‘yotes had to get every edge they could get.
That’s probably what goalie Mike Smith was thinking as he bullied Sidney Crosby during a stoppage in play.

Braden Holtby‘s 35-stop afternoon in Manitoba puts him in a three-way tie in shutouts (3) alongside Nashville’s Pekka Rinne and Phoenix’s Mike Smith.
I guess the first thing I should say is that shutouts, while awesome, are kind of a silly way to evaluate a goalie. Goalies don’t control the number of shots they face, just the percentage of that number they stop. That in mind, I thought we’d do a quick comparison of how these guys came to be the league’s shutout leaders.
