The Arizona Coyotes (41 points) hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins (74 points) tonight. To be victorious, the ‘yotes had to get every edge they could get.
That’s probably what goalie Mike Smith was thinking as he bullied Sidney Crosby during a stoppage in play.
During a Penguins power play in the second period, Smith got knocked into his net. Alex Goligoski did not like that and initiated some post-whistle ruckus with Patric Hornqvist. Human fried breakfast food Phil Kessel watched from nearby, but Crosby had nothing to do with it.
No one but the cameras saw as Smith pestered Crosby, tipping Sid’s helmet with his glove.
I’m not sure Sid even noticed.
The hockey gods later tried to penalize Smith after misplaying this easy dump in.
But whatever. Smith’s silliness still worked. The Coyotes won in overtime, 4-3.
