Alex Ovechkin takes third maintenance day in March, Craig Smith leaves practice early

The Washington Capitals took to the ice on Monday for the first time since their tough 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The team had Sunday off and will not play another game until Wednesday when the New York Islanders come to town.

One player notably absent from the ice was Caps captain Alex Ovechkin. According to NBC Sports Washington’s Matt Weyrich, Ovechkin took another maintenance day.

Alex Ovechkin misses Capitals practice due to maintenance day

The Washington Capitals took to the ice in New York for their first practice on the road after downing the Islanders on Saturday. The team had a scheduled day off on Sunday and will play the Rangers on Tuesday night.

One player notably absent on Monday was Caps captain Alex Ovechkin. According to The Washington Post’s Roman Stubbs, Ovechkin took a maintenance day.

Alex Ovechkin misses morning skate before game against Vegas Golden Knights

The Washington Capitals took the ice at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for their morning skate on Saturday before a matchup with the Golden Knights. The Caps are amid a three-game Western Conference swing that saw them take down the Arizona Coyotes 4-0 on Thursday.

One player notably absent was Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, Ovechkin took a maintenance day.

Alex Ovechkin misses Capitals practice due to maintenance day

The Washington Capitals took to the ice on Sunday after taking down the Columbus Blue Jackets in their preseason finale the night prior. The Caps had a scheduled day of practice before being off on Monday, practicing Tuesday, and then opening the regular season at home against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.

One player notably absent was Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, Ovechkin took a maintenance day.

Alex Ovechkin misses Capitals practice after taking maintenance day

The Washington Capitals took to the ice on Thursday for the first time since their 6-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. Capitals’ head coach Peter Laviolette gave players two consecutive days off on Tuesday and Wednesday as the team has a five-day break between games. Their next game is at home Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.

One player notably absent was Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. According to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir, Ovechkin took a maintenance day.

Evgeny Kuznetsov misses practice after hard hit against Columbus

Evgeny Kuznetsov was missing from Capitals practice on Wednesday. The team told The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell that the skilled forward took a maintenance day.

The news comes the day after Kuznetsov took a rough and arguably dirty hit from Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Andrew Peeke on Tuesday. The first line center did not miss a shift but got up slowly after being flung hard into the boards.

Alex Ovechkin misses practice with third maintenance day in last two weeks

The Washington Capitals held practice on Tuesday, a day after taking a 7-3 beating by the Boston Bruins.

Captain Alex Ovechkin was absent and took his third maintenance day in the month of January. Other than Carl Hagelin and Dmitry Orlov, who remain out due to COVID protocol, Ovi was the only skater missing, according to The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir.

Alex Ovechkin takes maintenance day after crashing feet-first into boards

On Wednesday, after a scheduled day off on Tuesday, the Capitals held their first practice since the team’s 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. The Caps took the ice without their captain Alex Ovechkin.

The Russian machine took a maintenance day due to a minor injury he suffered after colliding awkwardly into the end boards against the Blues.

Brett Connolly was plugged into the first line to accommodate Ovechkin’s absence.
