MedStar Capitals Iceplex closes early after pro-Trump mob storms U.S. Capitol

Washington DC and its surrounding areas are under a 6 PM curfew after President Trump incited his supporters to commit violence at the United States Capitol Building on Wednesday. Scores of the president’s supporters broke into the Capitol while Congress attempted to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Senate and House of Representative members were forced to evacuate and wear gas masks as rioters broke into offices and the halls of the House. One person was shot and later died during the violence.

President-elect Biden condemned the attack and said, “it’s not protest, it’s insurrection.”

Just a few miles away, MedStar Capitals Iceplex closed its doors early in respect of a 6 PM curfew issued by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam in Arlington and Alexandria. A State of Emergency was also issued in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Alex Ovechkin on President Donald Trump: ‘He loves Russia’

Alex Ovechkin is one of the greatest hockey players of all time and along the way he’s made some very famous friends. That includes both the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin who once exchanged an Ovechkin jersey during the Helsinki Summit.

Thursday, in a Russian-language interview with RTVI’s Tina Kandelaki, Ovechkin was asked to compare and contrast both.

Michal Kempny on Capitals players’ decisions to return to Europe, and risks of resuming the season

Michal Kempny had a lot to say during a recent Czech language interview on the BKT Podcast.

The Stanley Cup-winning defenseman discussed the European Capitals’ decision to return home and Radko Gudas’s opinion that the NHL should cancel the rest of the suspended 2019-20 season.

Alex Ovechkin gives President Trump a Capitals jersey at Mar-a-Lago Christmas Eve party

Monday, after the Capitals fell to the Bruins 7-3, the team flew back from Boston to Dulles Airport. Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin then took a flight to Miami to join his family, wife Nastya Ovechkina and son Sergei Ovechkin, who were already staying in their oceanside condo in Sunny Isles Beach for the Christmas holiday.

Tuesday, to celebrate Christmas Eve, Ovi and Nastya traveled north to Palm Beach to attend a holiday party thrown by President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

Ovechkin greeted Trump, shook hands, and presented the 45th President of the United States with a white Capitals jersey.

Washington Nationals fans chant ‘lock him up’ at President Trump

President Trump attended Game Five of the World Series at Nationals Park and he was not well received by fans.

Trump arrived at the game at 8 PM, nine minutes after rival José Andrés threw out the ceremonial first pitch. He sat in the “Washington suite” with the first lady, Melania Trump, and other Republican allies.

After the third inning concluded, President Trump was announced to the crowd. He was loudly booed.

José Andrés does Baby Shark chomp before throwing out ceremonial first pitch at World Series

World Central Kitchen founder, José Andrés, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game Five – the final home game held in Washington DC during the 2019 World Series.

Sporting a white beard, the Michelin star chef wore a customized white Washington Nationals jersey, that had his full name, José Andrés, and the number 19 on the back. Andrés threw out the first pitch to Mr. National himself, Ryan Zimmerman.

He received a huge ovation from the Nationals crowd.

Chef and humanitarian José Andrés to throw first pitch if Nationals-Astros have fifth game, President Trump to watch from stands

The Washington Nationals are currently up 2-0 in a best-of-seven series against the Houston Astros. The Nationals will be back home for the next few games. After initial reports that President Trump would throw the first pitch for a possible fifth game, the Nationals confirmed that was not to be.

If the series goes to five games, first pitch will go to long-time Washington sports fan, chef, and humanitarian José Andrés, who was “humbled by the invitation.”

President Trump to attend Game Five of World Series (if necessary)

The Racing Presidents may be joined at Nationals Park by one of the actual human ones.

Thursday afternoon, President Trump announced that he would attend Game Five of the World Series between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros. The Nats lead the series two games to none. Game Five would only happen if Washington loses one of their next two games at home.

President Trump’s speech during St. Louis Blues’ visit to White House mixes sports and politics

On Tuesday the St. Louis Blues accepted President Trump’s invitation to visit the White House in recognition of their 2019 Stanley Cup Championship. President Trump spoke on the White House lawn in front of assorted media and politicians, posed for photos with the team, and received a personalized jersey and putter from the team owner and captain.

In a 25-minute speech, President Trump detailed the Blues’ journey to the Cup. He also surprised key players like Jordan Binnington, Brayden Schenn, and Alex Pietrangelo with some time on the microphone to say a few words.

President Trump’s congratulatory speech also covered impeachment, negotiations with Turkey, and the status of the United States’ relationship with China.

The full transcription of Donald Trump’s Oval Office speech celebrating the Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup

The Washington Capitals met with Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, where Trump congratulated the team on the 2017-18 Stanley Cup championship win and wished them good luck in the 2018-19 playoffs.

Team owner Ted Leonsis and team captain Alex Ovechkin also said a few words thanking Trump and the the White House for their hospitality. Trump highlighted the play of defenseman John Carlson and nudged Carlson into making a speech as well.
